Black pepper can be one of the best spices for coughs because of its sharp, light, dry, hot and penetrating taste. The taste after digestion is sharp (katu).

Pepper is very hot, however. Therefore, caution is advised as it irritates Pitta, dries out and destroys Kapha. Please do not use on small children or weak children.
